About

Oreo is a dog we got off of craigslist. We (my husband and I) talked it over for a day and decided to go see her. We ended up driving into a bad part of town, into a house that had no collar, leash, or anything for the dog except adult dog food. We were told she was around 10 weeks and they got her from a special breeder. They told us she was westy and spaniel. Later we got her tested, and found out she is a combination of 5 different breeds, and none are any of the ones mentioned. They told us they were selling her because they could not have her in the apartment, and told us at 10 weeks she was house trained (yea..right). From the moment I picked her up I fell in love with her, and the rest is history!

She has been through puppy and advanced training classes and we started to notice she did very well in them, but didn’t have self control when it came to other dogs, she wanted to play and wouldn’t stop playing. All was going well until one sunny Saturday when we went for a walk in our neighborhood. A dog got out of it’s house, attacked, and wouldn’t let go. Since then she has become reactive to many things including novel objects, certain men, unfamiliar dogs, and some other things. We were lucky enough to find what I consider the best trainer around-a specialist in reactive dogs and worked with her for over a year. We continue to train at home and have found a balance between training and management. Many times we forget she is reactive when we are home with her. However walks with dogs in close proximity and having guests over can be a different story.  Even though she is a handful because of her anxiety, I would do it all over again in a second. I have learned so much and continue to do so. This blog is a way for me to vent and share with others my journey.
